Ranking System

An alternative college football ranking system

In my opinion a ranking system should be based on measurable data, and in terms of college football I think that current performance is the best measurable data point.  For me two measurements, score margin and current opponent ranking, are the key elements of performance.

Therefore, the Superior Performance Ranking System (SPRS) uses a scale factor that is directly proportional to score margin and a scale factor that is directly proportional to current opponent ranking, and takes the product of those two factors to assign points for every team.  The points accumulate during the season and each week the teams are ranked on their accumulated points.  The details of this system are provided on the Ranking System Description page which is accessible through the Description selection on the toolbar at the top of this page.

Do you believe that this ranking system is a viable alternative to the one used by the CFP Committee?  Please explain your reason(s) for your answer to this question?
