The teams being considered for a place in the college football playoff have all had outstanding years. Three of the teams have been decided upon and now the CFP Committee must decide between two teams for the last position in the playoffs.
One of the teams being considered is undefeated but has won all of their games by only 7 points or less. The average ranking of their opponent throughout the season was 65. The other team being considered lost only one game by 3 points to an opponent ranked 5th at the time of the game. They beat the remaining opponents on their schedule by at least 17 points with the average being 28 points. The average ranking of their opponent throughout the season was 28.
How should the CFP Committee determine which team should be the final team to make the college football playoffs? Should they decide that because one team was undefeated that it should be in the playoffs? Using SPRS (Superior Performance Ranking System), I believe that it would be shown that the team with one loss actually performed better over the course of the entire season. Therefore, it is the team actually deserving of being in the college football playoffs.
Please leave a comment and explain which team you think should be in the playoff and why.
