In my opinion a ranking system should be based on measurable data, and in terms of college football I think that current performance is the best measurable data point. For me two measurements, score margin and current opponent ranking, are the key elements of performance.
Therefore, the Superior Performance Ranking System (SPRS) uses a scale factor that is directly proportional to score margin and a scale factor that is directly proportional to current opponent ranking, and takes the product of those two factors to assign points for every team. The points accumulate during the season and each week the teams are ranked on their accumulated points.
